Gateway to Kaw Lake
On January 9, 1899, more than five years after the land run which opened the Cherokee Outlet to homesteaders, Braman was incorporated. Braman was established as a railhead town. When the railroad planned to extend from Wellington, KS to Tonkawa and needed a midway stop, railroad surveyor Dwight Braman made a deal with the locals - he'd survey their settlement for the railroad if they named the resulting town after him. They agreed to the deal, and the Town of Braman was born. Braman is rich with the fortunes from wheat and oil production and the proud heritage of many citizens that have made Braman their home, past and present. Braman is located on Highway 177 and offers a scenic route for travelers with a memorable southern access into Braman. |
